Thank you for visiting the Northwest Suburban Council, Boy Scouts of America home page. Our aim is to provide the public, our council members and members of other Scouting organizations with information about our council, our activities and our council camps. In addition, please use this site as a resource for your units.
Steven Taylor Dear Scouts, Scouters, and Scouting Parents:

Just like most of you, the Northwest Suburban Council, Boy Scouts of America has adjusted our spending. As we began 2008, we were operating on a very tight as well as reduced operating budget. Through diligent management we are experiencing a reduction in actual expenses.

Total compensation is $51,500 under budget. At the same time, we have maintained our field staff for 2008; those professionals that provide ongoing support and assist in direct program delivery. In 2006 and 2007, we had trimmed our professional staff from ten positions down to eight positions.

Collectively, all other expenses are $32,500 under budget. However, this year we have had numerous fuel surcharges and increased food costs added to our summer camp bills from a wide variety of vendors and service providers.

In spite of this strong display of fiscal responsibility, income shortfalls leave us needing additional support to obtain a balanced budget. Contributions from corporations have been dramatically affected by the national and global economy. Fundraising events have fallen short with a downturn in sponsorships.

Shortly, all parents and registered adults will receive notification of a special fund drive that will fully fund Scouting for 2008. Those already giving in the Family Friends of Scouting campaign will be asked to give just a little more ($35.00). Those not yet contributing are asked to show their support with a slightly higher contribution ($60.00).

Scouting is having a positive effect on youth and their families in the northwest suburbs. Membership continues to grow at a rate of +3.2%, leading the Area and also near the top in the Central Region. The number of Scouts earning the Eagle Scout Award continues to rise --- 134 so far in 2008 compared with 123 for all of 2007. Scouting is exceeding its goals in most measurable areas.

Scouting is wanted and needed. Scouting needs your support. You can wait for your letter or you can send your contribution to my attention at Fully Fund Scouting, Northwest Suburban Council, 600 N. Wheeling Road, Mt. Prospect, IL 60056. Or you can contribute through your Visa/Mastercard/Discover/American Express by contacting Sue Domzalski at 847-759-2999.

Thank you in advance,

Stephen J. Taylor, CFRE
